2k Kids Dash

For our future Olympians, we have a two loop course on wide footpaths with no road crossings, which keeps the kids close and safe throughout the event. That means we are able to bring the kids back into the park half way through their race for plenty of whooping and cheering as they run through a corridor of supporters – great encouragement to keep them going!

Kids start on the gravel track around the westerly lake approx. 100 metres from the starting arch on the Art Bridge. This is to ensure the course is exactly 2km and avoids the sharp turn and downhill run near the adult start line. Please KEEP LEFT when crossing the Art Bridge to the start as 10km runners and walkers will still be crossing the Art Bridge in the opposite direction to finish their race.
Important!Adults – we love the way you line the path to cheer on the kids but please remember we still have 10km runners and walkers finishing their event. Please be considerate and stay behind the fences that line the park entry/exit.
The Kids’ Dash is open to ages 3-10 years.

Let’s get ready to rumble!

Course Description

After the start hooter (and pandemonium!), the kids run around the base of the lower lake and turn right up the entrance to the park. Another right takes them onto the footpath on Civic Crescent. At the roundabout with Don McKinnon Drive, still staying on the footpath, they bear right and proceed along Don McKinnon Drive. At the next roundabout, staying on the footpath once again, they turn right into the new access road then across a short section of grass to arrive back in the park near the start arch.

From here, the kids run through the start arch (which now doubles as the 1km mark) and run straight across the Art Bridge and past the finish line (no sneaky turning into the finish after one lap!). This is where they hit a cauldron of noise as the adults go bananas cheering them on. They still have one more lap to go!

At the end of lap two, when they arrive back into the park, they proceed straight ahead across the Art Bridge to the finish line. Get your hands up in the air and give them a massive cheer!!!
